♫ R.I.P. Peter Yarrow ♫
Peter Yarrow, one-third of the folk group Peter, Paul and Mary, died yesterday at the age of 86.  According to the New York Times … On many of the trio’s recordings they split the vocal parts equally, braiding Mr. Yarrow’s precise tenor around Noel Paul Stookey’s gentle baritone and Mary Travers’s warm contralto. But Mr. Yarrow also had some prominent lead vocals as well, fronting such…

Peter Yarrow, the singer-songwriter best known as one-third of Peter, Paul and Mary, the folk-music trio whose impassioned harmonies transfixed millions as they lifted their voices in favor of civil rights and against war, has died. He was 86. Yarrow, who also co-wrote the group’s most enduring song, “Puff the Magic Dragon,” died Tuesday in New York, publicist Ken Sunshine said. Yarrow had bladder cancer for the past four years. “Our fearless dragon is tired and has entered the last chapter of his magnificent life. The world knows Peter Yarrow the iconic folk activist, but the human being behind the legend is every bit as generous, creative, passionate, playful, and wise as his lyrics suggest,” his daughter Bethany said in a statement. During an incredible run of success spanning the 1960s, Yarrow, Noel Paul Stookey and Mary Travers released six Billboard Top 10 singles, two No. 1 albums and won five Grammys.

♫ No Easy Walk To Freedom ♫
Tonight’s song is not one you’re likely to remember, nor one that was on your playlist when it was released back in 1986.  It only made it to #173 in the U.S. and did not chart outside the U.S.  However, it is a song with deep meaning, a song that speaks volumes and is a poignant reminder of where we have been, and where we are today as we celebrate Black History Month. This is the title song of…

I'm Not that Religious
You can’t always spot a Christian, but you can always spot a religious person. It’s their not-so-pretty mask of self-righteousness. I remember the singer-songwriter Noel Paul Stookey describe how they turned his chicken coop in Maine into a recording studio.
